School of Indian Classical Odissi Dance

Group classes are held in Potomac, Maryland from September through June. Guru Chitra adheres to the Guru-Shishya parampara, the ancient Indian method of teaching and learning, where students forge a bond with the Guru that transcends the classroom. Students are encouraged to perform at local and out of town events.

Private classes are held at the discretion of the Guru in Potomac, Maryland. Typically, they are initiated when the Guru determines that a student is ready for training to perform a Mancha Pravesh, the equivalent of a graduation, in which a student first performs a full Odissi repertoire to an appreciative audience. It is a 2 hour solo with a balanced mix of traditional and new choreography. The student is accompanied by a live orchestra consisting of the finest musicians from Odisha and the Washington area.

Workshops for senior students are normally held over the summer months.
